Winter Solstice 2022

A NIGHT OF TRUCE

The momentary pause
in the Earth's tilt stops 
my inner battle. 

This is my long night of truce. 
This darkness holds the promise
of a new life.

Listen. 

Can you feel the stillness?

Does it frighten you?
Does it calm you? 

I don't know if I should curl up and keep sleeping 
under the warm covers or get up and walk into the unknown. 

How can I trust in the midst 
of all this uncertainty?

When all comes to a still point
and you feel you, there's an aliveness 
stirring under the shell of doubt and fear. 

Trust. 

While there's no guarantee of anything,
the treasures awaiting are real. 

Fluff your beautiful feathers and let your wings carry you! 

They always know what to do.
